FAQs

What does a speech therapy session look like?

For children who are “late talkers” or have an expressive language delay, sessions are play- based and child-led. Evidence based language strategies are implemented through play to encourage communication.

For children with a speech sound disorder, sessions are focused on targeted speech practice to work on specific speech sounds while we keep it fun and engaging for the child.

Family will be given “homework” to practice between visits to help aid in the child’s progress in therapy.

HOW LONG WILL MY CHILD NEED THERAPY?

While we wish we had an answer to this question very valid question, we don’t. Every child is so different and we cannot guess how long it will take. Some children are able to meet their goals in 3 months, and for others, they may need more time, more repetitions, or more support than we expected. We will work with you to keep evolving our plans to follow your child’s pace. We don’t make specific promises because that would not be fair to you or your child. We can promise that we will meet your child where they are at and support them on their path to communication. Our goal is to always nuture their strengths and support their growth, wherever it leads.

Can parents be involved?

Absolutely! I encourage parents to be involved in sessions and to ask any questions they may have about what the therapist is doing.

How long are evaluations/therapy sessions?

Depending on the needs of the child, evaluations are typically 1-1.5 hours. The length of treatment sessions depends on the needs of the child and what the child tolerates. Sessions vary from 30-45 minutes.

When can I schedule a session?

Sessions are held Monday-Thursday.
